Honest leadership is the cornerstone of national success, without which political stability and the opportunity for progress cease to exist. Our people have suffered enough! It's now time for the GMA administration to relinquish power!

In 2001, she seemed like a superior alternative to Erap Estrada. Now it's clear that GMA has lost her mandate and has become the problem rather than the solution.

 Compelling Calls for GMA's Resignation
* "I believe that nearly every thoughtful Filipino today is convinced that deep structural changes are necessary. What these changes are and how they are to be put in place are the main questions upon us … Whatever road we may take, it is now clear to us that a step beyond Gloria is a step in the right direction."   Randy David, Sociologist

* "It does not matter whether she "actually won" or not, the fact of cheating voids any claim to the presidency. You catch a student cheating in the final exams, you do not ask whether he could have passed anyway even without cheating, you expel him ..."  Conrado de Quiros, Columnist

*

"What remains, it seems to me, is for a radical change both of system and of power holders to mature and win widespread popular support. It took Edsa I some time to ripen … The process of another maturation has begun. The increasing calls for resignation are part of the process even if now the callers envision conflicting futures. I join the calls now not because I believe that she will heed the voice of the people or that resignation will solve problems, but because it can lead to eventual popular consensus …"  Father Joaquin Bernas, Constitutionalist

*

"I ask the President to spare our country and herself from this (long and inherently contentious process of a congressional impeachment that can only generate more divisions in society and cast more suspicions on the threatened institutions of our democracy) … and make the supreme sacrifice of resigning."  Former President Cory Aquino

*

“We are convinced that resignation of the President is the best step towards resolution of the current crisis as it will eliminate further uncertainties, ease current and further conflicts and allow our country to move ahead with critical reforms beneficial to our people."  Senate President Frank Drilon, on behalf of The Liberal Party

*

“We now have a President who does not have the support of civil society and majority of the people.  As a country, we have lost hope that she will put genuine reforms over her personal and political interests.   After all, she has had four years to have made these reforms, and she has not.   She has failed us as a leader, and we now call on her to step down and resign from office."  Caucus of Development NGO Networks

Become Part of the Solution: Overseas Filipino Power
  1. Non-bank remittance – Send funds to your families in the Philippines outside the government’s radar screen; that is, send only through friends or door-to-door services. This will lower the official remittance figures, which the government likes to conveniently cite as a main source of economic strength.

  2. Postpone visits to the Philippines until GMA resigns.

  3. Discourage others from visiting the Philippines until GMA leaves office.

  4. Appeal to the sense of morality of potential investors to hold off investing until a new political mandate is given to a successor. This should include large equity investors, such as pension funds. (The poor don’t buy stocks anyway.)

  5. Expose to the world the scandal that GMA has brought upon herself and now on the Filipino people. Point out that most Filipinos are honest, but the government has long been dominated by the corrupt and incompetents, and the current leadership has lost the required moral and political ascendancy to lead.

  6. Encourage friends and family in the military to finally take a stand in favor of change—not to take over and rule but to withdraw support for an undeserving government.

  7. Use the power of symbols. Publicly use and promote GMA Resign articles (stickers, armbands, ribbons, bracelets, etc.).  Click here for sample items from the BNA group.

  8. Use technology to push for change. Help disseminate information (through e-groups and your personal distribution lists) about Gloriagate and the urgent need to now go beyond GMA. E-mail political players to show support for their efforts to help reveal the unvarnished truth. Network with active groups and find opportunities to help.
